JANINE DECRESENZO
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Janine grew up in a small waterfront community where collecting sea-worn treasures sparked a lifelong fascination with natural forms and rare finds. After earning her BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, she apprenticed with designer Eric Silva in California and then completed a residency at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg Tennessee. These diverse experiences helped shape Janine’s voice as both designer and maker.
Now based in Philadelphia, Janine handcrafts each piece in her collection using traditional techniques. Committed to lifelong learning, she regularly attends workshops to refine her skills and expand her practice. Beyond the studio, Janine nurtures her curiosity through studying gemstone symbolism, cooking nourishing meals, tending her garden, and practicing yoga and meditation—seeking balance in both life and craft, alongside her husband and two beloved cats.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Through traditional goldsmithing and silversmithing techniques, I strive to capture the beauty and character of the fauna and flora that I encounter in the natural world. It is important to me that each piece is hand crafted using ethically sourced gold, silver, and gemstones. I see every piece of jewelry as a celebration of the natural world, and I believe that the materials I choose should reflect the value of life that I seek to convey. When I am creating my work I am visualizing each piece being passed from one generation to the next. I believe in capturing the character of each life form through subtle expressive gestures. With a focus on environmental preservation, each piece is a snapshot in time to bring awareness and appreciation to the lesser known species that surround our world.
