ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a representational portrait painter exploring the subtle dynamics of human interaction, how social exchanges shape identity and the fundamental desire to be seen. Working primarily in oil on large-scale canvases, I render my subjects near or at life-size, immersing the viewer in an intimate encounter. My portraits often embrace distortion and surreal postures, bending reality to evoke psychological tension.
At the core of my practice is the interplay between personal experience and collective trauma, examining how these forces mold our perceptions of self, others, and shared existence. My current body of work centers on my children, capturing the complexities of familial bonds and the friction inherent in identity formation. The design of each piece confronts the quiet apathy surrounding domestic struggles, making the invisible visible. By isolating individuals within the frame, I amplify the lingering effects of internalized trauma, revealing its silent role in shaping who we become.
