ABOUT THE ARTIST
Briana Babani is an artist and designer based in New York’s Hudson Valley. She grew up in the Midwest, received her BA in painting from Yale University, and then lived and worked in New York City’s fashion district before earning her Masters Degree in Interior Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. With a professional background spanning multiple disciplines — construction, architecture, interior design, and textiles — Babani draws upon a broad skill-set and employs a variety of mediums and tools. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is part of numerous private collections. Past stockists for her textiles include Barneys New York and ABC Carpet and Home.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is rooted in labor-intensive technique and rigorous material exploration. Ubiquitous materials and forms often provide a critical point of departure. As an antidote to the regimentation of repetitive gestures and motifs, I toy with whimsy, exploring dualities between graphic and textural, playful and restrained, familiar and strange.
