OKANO YUH

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Yuh Okano is based in Chestertown, Maryland, where she creates delicate textile works. She began her career in 1995 and is celebrating her 30th anniversary this year. Her work is inspired by a deep fascination with the natural world. Her works express moments through delicate patterns, colors, shapes, and textures. Before moving to the US, Okano was a professor at a textile academy in Tokyo for seven years. She developed her textile techniques and participated in a textile group in one of Japan's major textile regions. Drawing on the precision craftsmanship and attention to detail that Kiryu, Japan, is renowned for worldwide, she established her own textile line in 2000. Centered on the shibori dyeing technique, she creates layered, flowing fabrics with colors reminiscent of undulating seas and rich textures. Aiming to blend art and craft, Yū has participated in numerous fashion designer exhibitions and craft fairs, expanding the possibilities of her work. Since 1998, this scarf has been selected as a representative work of the artist in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
