Andrea Haffner, Resin Botanical Sculptures
Andrea Haffner’s work highlights the infinite small wonders in the natural world. Her resin-encased compositions in her jewelry and small sculptures incorporate found materials such as weathered lacy pod skeletons, driftwood, and dissected seeds. Andrea has an abiding interest in small containers, in the ways they can serve as both holders of precious objects and deliberate points of focus. Through the unique contained environments she creates, she invites viewers to enter small worlds that are at once novel and deeply familiar.
Joseph Miceli, Painting
Formerly from the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, Joseph currently lives & works in the Philadelphia area. He received his undergraduate degree from Nazareth College of Rochester, NY, and relocated to Philadelphia in 1991 to pursue his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at Tyler School of Art and Architecture of Temple University.
In 2020 he returned to his studio with an invigorated focus on ink painting as a result of residing closer to home. Originally trained as a printmaker, he often adapts the complex application of printed inks into a more fluid approach utilizing templates and subtractive methods to attain comparable translucent layers. Through his use of nontoxic, water based inks this pliable medium allows the mining of multiple pigment layers to reveal dormant veils of underpainting. The impetus for the excavation of these strata of ink is to offer liberation to the unseen. Loosely based upon preliminary sketches of collected organic materials, his recent series of botanical-based paintings reference floral specimens, the papery bark of birch trees and the branching growth pattern of lichen.
