Cynthia Friedman Acquired by the The Fuller Craft Museum

made possible by the generous donation of a GLG patron

written by Bruce Hoffman

In September of 2023, Gravers Lane Gallery lost a great friend, artist and humanitarian, Cynthia Friedman. We were privileged to have hosted a solo exhibition of Cindy's work in 2017. The exhibit showcased the most outstanding works, among them, Moroccan Blue Men, a complex study of shapes and shadows composed of luminous fabrics and masterfully pieced & appliqued and stitching. The piece was instantly acquired by another great friend, admired artist, art patron & humanitarian, Marcia Docter. After receiving the sad news of Cindys' passing, Mrs. Docter contacted Gravers Lane Gallery with a request to place the quilt into a museum's permanent collection ensuring that Moroccan Blue Men is enjoyed by many. This past June we received word from Beth McLaughlin, Chief Curator at The Fuller Craft Museum, that the acquisitions committee had approved the generous gift from Marcia Docter in loving memory of Cynthia Friendman. Knowing Cindy as I do, she'd be grateful and humbled and proud to be in the permanent collection of a jewel of a Museum. The Fuller Craft Museum is in Brockton, Massachusetts https://fullercraft.org/
